Screeching guitars, pounding drums, bombastic synthesizers, strange but captivating vocals. All these elements unite and culminate in the music of Sentient Machine. Sentient Machine’s songs are built with driving rhythms and strong hooks wrapped in a wash of noise and exotic samples. A screamingly loud chorus can shrink down to little more than a whisper in a matter of seconds. It's music that's meant to be just as gut wrenching and visceral as it is eccentric and chaotic. Like a seven-year old schizophrenic it wavers between invitingly playful and a surrealistic nightmare.
Through their incendiary live performances and genre-hopping style, Scharling has been hard at work crafting and refining their unique and catchy brand of rock. Formed in 2002, the band currently consists of lead vocalist/songwriter and guitarist Chris Scharling, drummer/vocalist Lawrence Basso, bassist Phil Montelone, and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Chris Laurenzo on all manners of synthesizers, guitars, and other noise-making devices. The Upstate NY based quartet's diverse range of influences range from The Eels to Pantera, Megadeth, Beck, The Who, and Pearl Jam; creating a style all of their own, overflowing with energy and originality.
